Singing
My vocal journey
I’m an accomplished musician and songwriter, and I earned my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Montana. I began performing professionally in college, and went on to sing for many companies and events, while living in Portland.
From 2016 to 2018, I was one half of the Portland based folk-pop duet Tess & Linus, with Linus Ember. In January 2018, we had the honor of performing my original song "Changes" with Transpose, Portland's first transgender and non-binary choir. In March 2018, Tess & Linus decided to expand their musical family, and founded the theatrical folk pop band, Sasha and The Children, along with Jacqueline Hyde and Jason Champion. In November 2018 Sasha and The Children released their debut EP "Can't Fall Asleep". I also play synth, and sing background vocals for Linus’s solo project, Human Content.
Vocal transition
In 2020, during the pandemic, I made the decision to begin hormonal transition as part of my gender affirming medical care. I started taking low dose testosterone (T) to help the incongruity I felt in my body, and help me achieve a wider rage of gender expression. It drastically changed my voice: I went from being a lyric soprano, to a tenor who can also sing most mezzo soprano and alto repertoire. When I first started T, I wasn’t sure how it would affect my voice, or how I would feel about those effects, but it ended up being my favorite change. Now, I’m a far more confident singer and performer.
